Meet The Team

Professor Tommy Lam
Chief Executive Officer
Professor Tommy Lam, Associate Professor, received his BSc (Bioinformatics) and PhD (Molecular Virology) in The University of Hong Kong, and had postdoctoral training in Pennsylvania State University and University of Oxford. His main research interest is the evolution, epidemiology and ecology of infectious diseases.
He uses integrative genomic approach to determine the patterns, drivers and mechanisms of the emergence of pathogens at human-animal interface including influenza viruses and coronaviruses, as well as some bacterial pathogens and their antibiotic resistance emergence. His research has contributed to important understanding of the origins, evolution and transmission of newly emerging pathogens such as H7N9 influenza (Nature 2013, Nature 2015), MERS coronavirus (EID2013, Science 2016) and COVID-19 coronavirus (Nature 2020). He is also leading the development of several computational methods and tools for the genomic analysis in the research community.

Dr. Yunshi Liao
Chief Operating Officer
Dr. Yunshi LIAO is the Chief Operating Officer at C2iVect Limited in Hong Kong. He is a mosquito and arbovirus specialist with expertise in molecular biology, arbovirology and genomics. He leads the management of R&D project on molecular testing platform and mosquito control measures, and service provision in the company.
He received his PhD in Public Health from the University of Hong Kong, and has over 10 years of research experience in mosquito and arbovirus, including 5 years of management experience in correspondingR&D and service provision. He has led and participated in multiple startup programmes: from lean launch to incubation.

Dr. Shaolin Han
Honorary Scientific Lead
Dr. Shaolin Han, PhD, is the Honorary Scientific Lead at C2iVect Limited, Hong Kong. She is a mosquito specialist with extensive expertise in vector surveillance, mosquito taxonomy and identification, and insecticide resistance. Dr Han leads and contributes to large-scale mosquito research programmes in Hong Kong, including territory-wide assessments of mosquito diversity, surveillance of insecticide resistance in major disease vectors, and the development of AI-assisted tools for mosquito identification and real-time vector surveillance.
Her research also integrates environmental DNA (eDNA) and molecular approaches to enhance the early detection of invasive and medically important mosquito species. Dr Han obtained her PhD in Behavioural Ecology from the University of Melbourne, where her research focused on competition and resource defence in social insects, following earlier training in entomology in China. She has published widely on mosquitoes, ants, and insect behaviour, and has extensive experience in pitching research ideas and technical solutions to academic and industry stakeholders.

Dr. Emma Ji Wang
Honorary Technical Lead
Dr. Wang is the Technical Lead at C2iVect, responsible for the continous development and optimization of the company’s molecular Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) platform for infectious pathogens.
She received her PhD in Analytical Chemistry in 2019 and has 15 years of experience in microfluidics-based system development, including molecular POCT platforms, viral-inspired intelligent nanomedicine delivery systems, organ-on-a-chip models, and organ-chip-based platforms for studying viral disease pathogenesis. Her work focuses on translating microfluidic and analytical technologies into robust, field-deployable diagnostic solutions.
